Elina Svitolina has booked her place in the Rome final after a hard-fought 6-4, 2-6, 6-
2 victory over world number three Iga Swiatek at the Italian Open.

The Ukrainian, a two-time former champion in Rome, showed composure in the
deciding set to overcome Swiatek’s 28 winners, with the Pole’s 50 unforced errors
ultimately proving costly. She will now face Coco Gauff in the final.

“After so many years, I’m happy to be again in the final,” Svitolina said.

Swiatek produced moments of high-quality attacking tennis and briefly levelled the
contest after taking the second set, but Svitolina held firm in the decider to close out
the win.

The seventh seed’s route to the final also included a tough quarter-final win over
second seed Elena Rybakina, underlining a strong run as she targets a third Rome
crown.
