Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has said that talent alone is not enough to guarantee success in the music industry, as she outlined the inspiration behind her new initiative, the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation.

The 46-year-old singer made this known while speaking on the foundation’s mission to support and empower emerging African creatives, particularly those with limited access to opportunities.

“Music changed my life but talent alone isn’t enough, especially when access is limited,” Savage said. “I want to open people’s eyes to the full scope of what’s possible in music.”

As part of the initiative, Savage is set to host a grand finale concert on April 26 for over 100 participants who recently graduated from the programme. The project is being run in partnership with Berklee College of Music.

The event will take place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts and will be hosted by Nigerian entertainer Darey Art Alade alongside media personality Kie Kie.

Savage emphasized that her vision goes beyond discovering new artistes, noting that the foundation is designed to nurture a new generation of music industry professionals.

“I don’t just want to launch artists; I want to build leaders, producers, executives and owners who will shape the future of the music industry,” she said.

She added that the long-term goal is to create a ripple effect across the industry, with beneficiaries going on to become film composers, label executives, and mentors who will, in turn, uplift others.

“Our alumni will become film composers, label executives and mentors who reinvest in the next generation. If a young musician from a small neighbourhood can say the foundation changed their life, then we’ve achieved something meaningful,” Savage added.
