Osasuna have officially appealed to the Spanish Football Federation, claiming that Barcelona defender Iñigo Martínez was ineligible to play in their 3-0 defeat on Thursday.

Martínez, who withdrew from Spain’s UEFA Nations League squad due to a knee injury, featured in the rescheduled La Liga clash just four days after Spain’s last match.

Osasuna argue this violates FIFA regulations, which mandate a five-day waiting period before a withdrawn player can return for their club.

“Osasuna believes Martínez was not eligible to play and has filed an appeal to ensure fairness and equality in the competition,” the club stated.

Barcelona insist they had clearance for Martínez’s inclusion, but if found guilty, they could face a points deduction or a reversal of the match result in Osasuna’s favor.

With Barça currently three points clear at the top of La Liga, the outcome of this appeal could have major title race implications.
