Liverpool’s alarming slump hit a new low as champions Nottingham Forest thrashed them 3–0 at Anfield, matching the Reds’ joint-heaviest home Premier League defeat and leaving Arne Slot’s side marooned in 11th place.
Murillo, Nicolo Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White struck for a Forest team that began the day in the relegation zone but walked away with their sixth win in seven league outings.
Slot admitted full responsibility, saying his tactical adjustments failed to lift a side that faded badly after a bright opening spell.
Liverpool collapsed early in the second half when Savona scored within seconds of the restart, prompting chants from the away end suggesting Slot’s job was under threat.
The home side created little, with big-money signing Alexander Isak again unable to make an impact before being withdrawn.
Injuries have deepened Liverpool’s woes, with Florian Wirtz and Conor Bradley joining an already lengthy list of absentees.
Slot urged his players to stay focused ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League fixture against PSV Eindhoven, but conceded that experience alone will not fix their problems.
Liverpool have now lost eight of their last 11 in all competitions, a run that has left their title defence in serious disarray.
