Rosenior’s Reign Starts With No Mercy for Chelsea Outcasts in the Wilderness

Liam Rosenior’s arrival at Chelsea is unlikely to bring a change of fortune for several first-team players, with Axel Disasi, Raheem Sterling and Tyrique George still expected to leave the club before the transfer window closes.

Rosenior oversaw his first training session on Thursday and will make his managerial debut in the FA Cup against Charlton, beginning a new six-year chapter at Stamford Bridge. However, sources indicate the change in the dugout has not altered Chelsea’s short-term transfer plans.

The club are preparing for a largely quiet window, with any potential first-team signing dependent on a clear market opportunity. Instead, the focus remains on trimming the squad, and Disasi, Sterling and George are all considered surplus to requirements.

West Ham United are weighing up a move for Disasi as an alternative option in defence, while the Frenchman has also been offered to other clubs. Sterling, meanwhile, is exploring ways to remain in London, with West Ham, Crystal Palace and Fulham showing varying levels of interest, though no deal is yet close.

Teenage forward Tyrique George is also expected to secure a move away this month, with several clubs monitoring his situation and a deal likely to be completed well before deadline day.

Chelsea had initially been expected to be more active in the market under former head coach Enzo Maresca, but differences over recruitment strategy contributed to his exit. Under Rosenior, the club view the coming weeks as a period of stability rather than upheaval, prioritising minimal disruption as the new manager begins his reign.
