Scott McTominay celebrate Inter Napoli 770x513

Scott McTominay scored twice as Napoli fought back on two occasions to secure a 2-2 draw against Inter Milan in a gripping Serie A clash, the fourth of the last five meetings between the sides to finish level.

Inter struck first in the ninth minute when Federico Dimarco rifled home after a turnover involving Piotr Zielinski and McTominay, despite Napoli’s bright opening.

The visitors pressed for a second, with Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu going close, but Napoli weathered the storm and responded through McTominay, who met Matteo Politano’s low cross with a first-time finish on 26 minutes.

Both sides traded chances before and after the break, with Napoli wasting two early second-half openings and Inter probing through Nicolo Barella and Calhanoglu from range.

The visitors thought they had regained control in the 73rd minute when Calhanoglu converted a penalty, awarded after Amir Rrahmani’s foul on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, a decision that saw Napoli coach Antonio Conte sent off for his protests.

Napoli hit back again eight minutes later as Noa Lang nodded Politano’s cross into McTominay’s path, allowing the midfielder to claim his second equaliser of the night.

Inter almost snatched victory in stoppage time when Mkhitaryan struck the post, but the points were ultimately shared.

The result leaves Napoli third after a second straight draw, while Inter remain top of Serie A despite seeing their six-game winning run come to an end.
