Carrick’s Man United Revival Begins with Derby Statement
Michael Carrick delivered a timely boost to Manchester United’s season after his second spell as
interim manager began with a thrilling 2-0 win over Manchester City.
Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu scored either side of a dominant display from United, who
looked far more confident and energetic than in recent weeks.
City were second best for much of the match, with only a combination of disallowed goals, the
woodwork and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma preventing a heavier defeat.
Wayne Rooney praised the performance, saying fans had “been starved” of that kind of
excitement.
Carrick, however, urged calm, insisting it was “only one performance” and that the focus should
be on playing well.
The victory lifts United into the Premier League’s top five, and gives Carrick a strong platform
as he prepares for next weekend’s clash with leaders Arsenal.
