Mateta Misses Forest Trip Amid Transfer Talk
Jean-Philippe Mateta will not travel with Crystal Palace for Sunday’s Premier League
trip to Nottingham Forest as speculation over his future at Selhurst Park continue
Palace manager Oliver Glasner confirmed the France striker’s omission, stressing the
decision was not directly linked to the transfer window.
“I can confirm JP will not be in the matchday squad,” Glasner said. “He’s just not in the
right place right now to play. To protect the team and protect him, that’s why he will not
travel to Nottingham.”
AC Milan are reported to be frontrunners to sign the 28-year-old before Monday’s
deadline, with Forest also linked.
Palace have been tipped to move for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, but Glasner
said there is no certainty.
“It can be that JP stays and is a Crystal Palace player on February 2, and it could be
that JP has left the club and a new striker is in,” he said.
The uncertainty comes at a difficult time for Palace, who are winless in 11 matches
across all competitions, sit eight points above the relegation zone, and recently suffered
a shock FA Cup exit to non-league Macclesfield.
