France’s emerging stars stole the spotlight as Desire Doue struck twice in a
commanding a 3-1 win over Colombia, sending a strong message ahead of the World
Cup.
With Didier Deschamps rotating his squad, it was the fringe players who delivered,
as 20-year-old Doue opened the scoring with a deflected effort before Marcus
Thuram powered in a header to double the lead before the break.
Colombia had its moments, going close early through Richard Ríos, but France’s
control proved decisive.
A key recovery tackle from Maxence Lacroix denied Luis Diaz a route back into the
game, and moments later, France struck again as Thuram teed up Doue to finish
clinically for his second.
Jaminton Campaz pulled one back late on, but Colombia’s push fell short as they
slumped to another defeat against top-ranked opposition.
Kylian Mbappe was introduced late and nearly added gloss to the scoreline, but it
was France’s new generation that made the biggest statement, extending Les Bleus’
unbeaten run to nine games and giving Deschamps plenty to consider ahead of his
World Cup squad selection.
