Liverpool Hit Four as Newcastle’s Anfield Curse Deepens
Newcastle United’s long-running misery at Anfield continued as Liverpool came from behind to claim a 4-1 Premier League victory, extending the Magpies’ winless league run at the ground to 30 matches.
Despite their poor record on Merseyside, Newcastle started brightly and stunned the hosts when Anthony Gordon finished a rapid counter-attack to put Eddie Howe’s side ahead.
That advantage was short-lived, though, as Liverpool seized control before half-time through a Hugo Ekitike brace that completely swung the momentum.
The hosts tightened their grip after the break, with Florian Wirtz adding a third following Mohamed Salah’s assist, a contribution that saw the Egyptian make Premier League history by reaching double figures for both goals and assists against one opponent.
Ibrahima Konate rounded off the scoring late on after Nick Pope spilled a corner, the defender scoring into an empty net.
The defeat leaves Newcastle 10th in the table and still searching for a first league win at Anfield since 1994, while Liverpool climb back to fifth and remain firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish.
