OLISE HAT-TRICK FIRES FRANCE PAST NORTHERN IRELAND IN DESCHAMPS’ HOME FAREWELL.
Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise scored his first international hat-trick as France
beat Northern Ireland 3-1 in Lille, giving Didier Deschamps a winning send-off in his
final home game as manager.
After a frustrating first half, Olise broke the deadlock just before the interval before
doubling France’s lead with a superb strike from the edge of the box shortly after the
restart.
Northern Ireland responded through Patrick Kelly to briefly raise hopes of a
comeback, but Olise completed his hat-trick with a brilliant curled finish from 20
yards to seal the victory.
France also saw captain Kylian Mbappé have a goal ruled out as he missed the
chance to move level with France’s all-time leading scorer.
The win sends Les Bleus into the World Cup in a confident mood, while Deschamps
bows out from home duty after 14 years in charge.
