Amorim, Man United Determined to Prove Ratcliffe Wrong After Squad Criticism

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has acknowledged club co-owner Jim Ratcliffe’s criticism of the squad but insists the team is determined to change his mind through improved performances.

Ratcliffe recently praised Amorim as an “outstanding young manager” but was critical of several United players, questioning their quality and value.

With the team languishing in 14th place, 36 points behind leaders Liverpool, Amorim admitted that criticism was justified.

“If we’re being honest, we are underperforming this season – myself included,” Amorim said. “Players like Casemiro, who has won everything, can perform much better. The focus is to change perceptions.”

Despite the scrutiny, Amorim maintains a strong relationship with Ratcliffe, appreciating the open communication. “We are quite similar in character, very blunt and honest,” he said. “I’ve always felt supported, but we need results.”

United face Real Sociedad in the Europa League last-16 second leg on Thursday after a 1-1 draw in Spain. Midfielder Mason Mount has returned to training but will miss the game, while Manuel Ugarte is back in contention.

However, Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro remain sidelined, with Maguire possibly returning for Sunday’s clash against Leicester City.

United also unveiled plans for a new 100,000-seat stadium, projected to cost £2 billion, but Amorim remains focused on the present.

“That’s in the future. Right now, I’m excited to win things at Old Trafford,” he said.
