MAGUIRE SALUTES CARRICK REVIVAL AS UNITED EDGE TOWARDS UCL RETURN.
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has hailed Michael Carrick for sparking a
dramatic upturn in form after their 2-1 win over Brentford strengthened hopes of a
Champions League return.
After a disappointing 15th-place finish last season, United now sits third and firmly in
control of their destiny, with a top-five spot within reach.
Maguire pointed to Carrick’s early influence as decisive, saying, “We had two tough
fixtures when he first came in… Arsenal and Man City, and to take six points from
those gave everyone belief.
“We’ve stuck together since then, and you can feel the confidence in the team. We
believe we can hurt teams at any moment.”
The centre-back also suggested the squad has found greater balance compared to
life under Ruben Amorim.
“The results tell the story. Since the change, we’ve been more consistent,” he said.
“Before, games felt like they could go either way, but now we’re stronger defensively
and far more decisive going forward.”
United’s run of nine wins from 13 matches under Carrick has put them within
touching distance of Europe’s top competition, with four games left to seal their
return.
