ANDREEVA RALLIES PAST SWIATEK TO REACH STUTTGART SEMI-FINALS.
Teenager Mirra Andreeva produced a fearless comeback to defeat Iga Swiatek 3-6,
6-4, 6-3 and storm into the semi-finals in Stuttgart.
After dropping the opening set, Andreeva flipped the contest with aggressive
baseline play and key breaks at crucial moments, knocking out one of the
tournament favourites on her preferred surface.
She now faces top seed Elena Rybakina, who edged Leylah Fernandez 6-7(5), 6-4,
7-6(6) in a gruelling three-hour battle.
Elsewhere, Karolina Muchova beat Coco Gauff 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 to earn her first win over
the American, saying: “It was a great fight… I’m just happy that I finally beat her.”
Elina Svitolina also advanced with a 7-6(2), 7-5 win over Linda Noskova, later
admitting: “I had a really difficult time mentally… but my fighting spirit is back.”
