England were made to work hard for a 1-0 friendly win over New Zealand in Florida,
with Harry Kane’s first-half header proving the difference.

Thomas Tuchel’s side controlled possession early but struggled for cutting edge, as
Ollie Watkins wasted a good chance before Kane was twice denied by Max
Crocombe.

New Zealand offered brief resistance, with Matthew Garbett forcing a smart save
from Jordan Pickford, but England eventually broke through in stoppage time of the
first half, when Kane nodded home from Djed Spence’s delivery.

Despite second-half changes from Tuchel, including a debut for Rio Ngumoha,
England could not extend their lead, with Dan Burn hitting the post and Jude
Bellingham missing a late chance.

It was far from fluent, but England did enough to take the win as they continue their
World Cup preparations, while New Zealand can take positives from a much-
improved display.
