Germany extended their winning run to six matches with a thrilling 4-3 victory over
Switzerland in a pulsating friendly encounter in Basel.
Florian Wirtz was the standout performer, scoring twice and providing two assists in
a game that swung from end to end.
Switzerland struck first through Dan Ndoye, but Germany responded quickly as
Jonathan Tah headed home from Wirtz’s delivery.
The hosts regained the lead before the break when Breel Embolo finished from close
range, only for Serge Gnabry to restore parity before half-time after being picked out
by Wirtz.
Germany seized control in the second half, with Wirtz producing a moment of
brilliance to fire them ahead with a superb strike from the edge of the box.
Switzerland rallied late on and looked to have salvaged a draw when substitute
Monteiro unleashed a stunning effort into the top corner.
However, Wirtz ensured there would be a decisive finish, curling home a magnificent
winner to cap a sensational individual display and secure victory for Germany, while
ending Switzerland’s impressive unbeaten run on home soil.
