LAZIO EDGE ATLANTA ON PENALTIES TO REACH COPPA ITALIA FINAL.
Lazio booked their place in the Coppa Italia final after a dramatic penalty shootout
win over Atalanta, sealing their first away victory against La Dea in the competition.
The semi-final tie, level at 2-2 from the first leg, produced few clear chances in
normal time, with both sides struggling to find a breakthrough despite Atalanta’s
brighter start.
Controversy struck in the second half when Atalanta had a goal ruled out after VAR
intervention, before Lazio took the lead through Alessio Romagnoli. However, Mario
Pašalić responded almost immediately to keep the hosts alive.
Extra time brought more tension than quality, with another Atalanta goal disallowed
for offside, forcing the tie into penalties.
Goalkeeper Edoardo Motta emerged as the hero, saving four consecutive spot-kicks
to send Lazio through to their 11 th final, where they will face Inter Milan.
