REAL MADRID CONFIRM MOURINHO RETURN ON THREE-YEAR DEAL.
Jose Mourinho has been confirmed as Real Madrid’s new head coach, completing a
dramatic return to the Spanish giants 13 years after leaving the club.
Real Madrid announced that Mourinho has signed a three-year contract running until
June 2029, and will officially begin work on July 13 at the start of pre-season.
The Portuguese manager returns to the Santiago Bernabéu after guiding Benfica
through an unbeaten league campaign last season. During his first spell in Madrid
between 2010 and 2013, Mourinho won LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish
Super Cup.
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez approved the appointment following his re-
election, while Benfica confirmed they would receive €15 million (£12.9 million) in
compensation.
Mourinho will arrive with a five-man backroom team, including assistants João
Tralhão and Pedro Machado, as Real look to end a trophy drought that has stretched
over the past two seasons.
