WEMBANYAMA MAKES HISTORY WITH UNANIMOUS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OFTHE YEAR WIN.
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has made NBA history after becoming
the first player ever to win the Defensive Player of the Year award by unanimous
vote.
The 22-year-old, who missed out last season due to injury and the 65-game rule,
was the clear favourite this time and beat finalists Chet Holmgren and Ausar
Thompson to claim the honour.
Wembanyama also becomes the youngest winner of the award and adds it to his
2024 Rookie of the Year title, which he also won unanimously.
The French centre is now the fourth Spurs player to win the award, following Alvin
Robertson, David Robinson and Kawhi Leonard.
He has also been named an MVP finalist alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and
Nikola Jokić, capping a standout season that has further elevated his growing
reputation.
