Manchester United players will receive just two complimentary tickets each and face same-day travel for next week’s Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao, as the club continues to tighten its belt.

While squad members can buy up to 10 additional tickets for the 21 May clash at San Mames, they must arrange travel themselves for any friends or family.

United say the move is designed to maximise the number of tickets from their 15,000 allocation going directly to fans.

The decision comes as part of a broader wave of cost-cutting, which has already seen staff stripped of free match tickets and complimentary lunches.

Instead of travelling to Spain, employees have been invited to a viewing party in Manchester.

Should United win, they plan to mark the moment with a low-key barbeque at Carrington. A parade is off the table, with a final Premier League match against Aston Villa on 25 May and an Asia tour kicking off immediately after.

That leaves no room for celebrations before players head off on international duty, with major fixtures on the horizon for Portugal and South American nations in early June.

While Tottenham are yet to confirm their plans in the event of victory, a trophy parade is thought to be under consideration, unlike United, who haven’t held one since Sir Alex Ferguson’s farewell in 2013.
