MANCHESTER CITY

Manchester City secured their place in the FIFA Club World Cup knockout stage in emphatic fashion, sweeping past Al Ain 6-0 in Riyadh.

The result not only confirmed City’s progression but also eliminated Al Ain, who have now conceded 11 goals in just two group games.

Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring inside eight minutes with a fortunate yet elegant finish that looped over Khalid Eisa.

Al Ain briefly threatened when Nassim Chadli forced a fine save from Stefan Ortega, but the resistance didn’t last long.

Claudio Echeverri doubled City’s lead just before the half-hour with a beautifully struck free-kick, marking his first goal for the club.

Moments before the break, VAR awarded a penalty for a foul on Manuel Akanji, and Erling Haaland coolly slotted home to make it 3-0.

Any hopes of an Al Ain revival were dashed after the restart. Gundogan added his second of the night with a classy finish in the 73rd minute, lifting the ball over Eisa after a silky first touch.

City weren’t done. Oscar Bobb tucked home at the near post before Rayan Cherki netted his first goal for the club to round off the dominant performance.

The result sets up a final group clash between City and Juventus, with both teams holding perfect records and eyeing top spot.
