BAYERN EDGE REAL MADRID TO TAKE CONTROL OF UCL TIE.
Bayern Munich claimed a dramatic 2-1 win over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the
first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, taking a slender advantage back to
Germany.
The visitors started brightly and nearly took an early lead, but Dayot Upamecano
failed to connect properly from close range.
Real Madrid responded with pace on the counter, forcing Manuel Neuer into key
saves to deny Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior.
Bayern made their pressure count five minutes before half-time, carving Madrid open
with a slick passing move, finished calmly by Luis Diaz.
They struck again just seconds after the restart, as Michael Olise’s driving run set up
Harry Kane, who swept a composed effort beyond Andriy Lunin from the edge of the
area to make it 2-0.
Real Madrid pushed back and were rewarded late on when Kylian Mbappe
converted from close range after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s low cross, setting up a
tense finish.
Despite late pressure from the hosts, Bayern held on for a crucial first-leg win,
putting themselves in a strong position to reach the semi-finals.
