NAPOLI TITLE DREAMS CRUMBLE AFTER HOME DEFEAT TO LAZIO.
Napoli suffered a crushing blow in the Serie A title race after a 2-0 home defeat to
Lazio, a result that leaves their Scudetto hopes hanging by a thread.
With leaders Inter Milan already winning, Napoli needed a response but were caught
cold early as Matteo Cancellieri finished off a slick Lazio move to silence the
Maradona.
Despite dominating the ball, Napoli offered little cutting edge and failed to register a
shot on target before the break, with Vanja Milinković-Savić keeping them alive with
key saves, including a penalty stop from Mattia Zaccagni.
Any hope of a comeback vanished in the second half when Toma Bašić reacted
quickest to a loose ball to double Lazio’s lead.
Napoli never looked like recovering, as their first home league defeat of the season
leaves the title race slipping firmly out of reach, while Lazio claim a vital away win to
boost their push up the table.
