AC MILAN SACKS ALLEGRI IN WIDE-RANGING CLUB OVERHAUL FOLLOWING SEASON COLLAPSE.
AC Milan have sacked head coach Massimiliano Allegri following a disastrous end to
the season that saw the club miss out on Champions League qualification after a 2-1
final-day defeat to Cagliari.
Milan dropped from third to fifth in Serie A, sealing a second straight season without
Europe’s elite competition prompting owners RedBird Capital to label the
campaign an “unequivocal failure”.
In a sweeping shake-up, the club also confirmed the departure of the chief executive
Giorgio Furlani, sporting director, Igli Tare, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada
as part of a wider restructuring.
Allegri, who returned for a second spell in charge last year, exits after a campaign
marked by inconsistency, with Milan losing seven of their final 13 league matches.
The Rossoneri will now compete in the Europa League next season alongside
Juventus, while Inter Milan, Napoli, Roma, and Como will represent Italy in the
Champions League.
