Chelsea is closing in on the appointment of Xabi Alonso as their new manager, with
a four-year deal agreed and only an official announcement remaining, coming in the
aftermath of their FA Cup final defeat.

Chelsea interim coach Calum McFarlane saw his side fall 1-0 to Manchester City
F.C. at Wembley, where Antoine Semenyo produced the decisive moment with an
audacious back-flick finish in the second half.

The result extends a difficult run for the Blues, who have now gone seven Premier
League matches without a win and remain ninth in the table, leaving their hopes of
European qualification hanging in the balance ahead of Tuesday’s meeting with
Tottenham Hotspur F.C..

Spurs is a massive game for this club,” McFarlane said, urging his players to
respond quickly as they attempt to salvage their season in the final stretch.

Behind the scenes, Chelsea has moved decisively to secure Alonso, who has
agreed a long-term four-year contract after discussions with the club in London
earlier this week.

The former Real Madrid CF and Bayer Leverkusen boss is now expected to be
officially unveiled shortly, bringing clarity to a managerial search shaped by another
turbulent campaign.

The club has already parted ways with Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior in a
season defined by instability and underperformance.
