SEVILLA BEAT ATLETICO TO CLIMB OUT OF RELEGATION ZONE.
Sevilla strengthened their LaLiga survival hopes with a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid
at Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, ending a three-game losing run.
With focus on the Champions League clash against Barcelona, Diego Simeone
named his youngest LaLiga starting XI, including three debutants.
One of them, Dani Martinez, conceded an early penalty after a VAR review, which
Akor Adams converted despite Juan Musso getting a hand to it.
Atletico responded in the 35th minute as debutant Javier Bonar headed home Julio
Diaz’s cross. But Sevilla restored their lead before the break, with Nemanja Gudelj
nodding in from a Ruben Vargas corner.
The hosts nearly added a third after the restart when Isaac Romero struck the post,
but the second half lacked intensity.
The result lifts Sevilla out of the relegation zone to 15th, while Atletico, now with five
defeats in nine league matches, remain focused on their upcoming European test.
