TURKEY END 24-YEAR WAIT WITH NARROW WIN TO REACH WORLD CUP.
Turkey secured their first World Cup appearance since 2002 with a hard-fought 1-0
victory over Kosovo in Pristina.
A tight contest saw few clear chances before the break, with both sides showing
urgency but lacking a cutting edge in the final third.
The breakthrough came early in the second half when Kerem Aktürkoğlu tapped in
from close range after Orkun Kökçü’s effort.
Kosovo pushed for a response, with Fisnik Asllani going closest, but goalkeeper
Uğurcan Çakır stood firm to preserve Turkey’s lead.
The result extends Turkey’s unbeaten run to six matches and seals qualification,
while Kosovo falls just short of a historic first appearance at the tournament.
