World number two Carlos Alcaraz says he is waiting on further medical tests before
deciding whether he will defend his French Open title next month.
The 22-year-old suffered a wrist injury during the Barcelona Open and was forced to
withdraw, with subsequent scans revealing the issue was more serious than first
feared, leading him to also skip the Madrid Open.
Alcaraz admitted the next round of tests will be decisive. “The next test will be
crucial,” he said, adding that he is trying to remain patient while awaiting clarity on
his condition.
He explained that more assessments are scheduled in the coming days, after which
a final decision will be made on his recovery timeline and participation in Paris.
The Spaniard, who recently lost the world number one ranking to Jannik Sinner, is
targeting a return in time for the French Open, which begins on May 24.
