Victor Wembanyama moved to within four wins of NBA glory after inspiring the San
Antonio Spurs to a 111-103 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder and a 4-3
Western Conference Finals series triumph.

The French superstar scored 22 points as the Spurs stunned the defending
champions on the road to book an NBA Finals showdown against the New York
Knicks.

Wembanyama described the chance to compete for the Larry O’Brien Trophy as the
fulfilment of a lifelong dream.

“Winning the NBA championship is a childhood dream, and having a real shot at it is
a lifetime chance,” he said. “The day we win it, it’s going to be the realisation of a
dream.”

The 22-year-old also praised his teammates after seven Spurs players finished with
double-digit points in the decisive victory.

“So many big-time plays, so many guys stepping up,” Wembanyama said. “I want to
have this feeling plenty more times in my life.”

After helping San Antonio reach the Finals, Wembanyama reflected on the team’s
steady progress throughout the season and his own growth during a gruelling seven-
game series against Oklahoma City.

“I found resources inside of me. Relentlessness,” he said. “The crazy thing is, I want
to do that 15 or 20 more times.”

The Spurs now turn their attention to the Knicks, with Game 1 of the NBA Finals set
for Wednesday in San Antonio.
