Nigeria have moved up three places to 38th in the newest FIFA men’s world ranking, released on Wednesday after a month that featured two competitive fixtures for the Super Eagles.

The rise follows their 4–1 win over Gabon and a 1–1 draw with DR Congo, a match ultimately lost on penalties in the African play-off.

Despite missing out on the 2026 World Cup, the results were enough to push Nigeria upward. They now sit on 1,502.46 points, fifth in Africa behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt and Algeria.

Morocco remain the continent’s top-ranked team with 1,713.12 points, while Senegal (19th), Egypt (34th) and Algeria (35th) all hold narrow leads over Nigeria.

The Super Eagles themselves sit just ahead of Tunisia and comfortably above Ivory Coast and DR Congo.

Globally, Spain stay top, followed by Argentina and France. Brazil climbed two places to fifth, reshuffling the landscape for several nations.

For Nigeria, the ranking boost offers small comfort after the play-off exit in Rabat, where an early Frank Onyeka strike was undone before a decisive penalty shoot-out.

With the Africa Cup of Nations approaching in December, the Super Eagles have a chance to strengthen their position further.
