ANDREEVA EAGER FOR MORE AFTER MAIDEN GRAND SLAM TRIUMPH.
French Open champion Mirra Andreeva says winning her first Grand Slam title was even
better than she had imagined and has already left her craving more success.
The 19-year-old Russian defeated Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 in Saturday’s final to become the
youngest Roland Garros women’s champion in more than three decades.
“I’ve done a lot of visualisations before. Not just this tournament, but I’ve had dreams and
thoughts about how it would happen,” Andreeva said. “The feeling in real life is so much
better than in your dreams.”
Andreeva admitted she was particularly delighted to win her first major in Paris, a
tournament she has always felt connected to because of her love for clay courts.
“I felt like this would be the perfect first Grand Slam for me, so I’m super happy that it
happened here,” she added.
Despite having just lifted the Suzanne Lenglen Cup, the teenager revealed her attention is
already turning to Wimbledon and the grass-court season.
“These feelings are extra special,” Andreeva said. “I feel like this thing is a little bit addictive,
and I really want to do my best to experience all of this for the second time.”
The Russian also paid tribute to coach Conchita Martinez, describing it as “very special” to
share her first Grand Slam title with the former Wimbledon champion after two years of
working together.
Andreeva’s triumph marks a major milestone in her rapidly rising career and confirms her
status as one of tennis’ brightest young stars.
